buildingSMART maintains Industry Foundation Classes as an open, vendor-neutral schema for built-environment information. A provider claim still needs release, model-view, field, identity, relationship, validation, and round-trip evidence for the project exchange.
PMI's current guide adds updated principles, performance domains, and non-prescriptive process guidance. It can organize project-management practice, but it does not change the owner, contract, law, or professional authority governing a construction decision.
ISO still lists the 2018 delivery-phase information-management standard as published and current, but under revision, with a draft replacement in development. Project requirements should name the adopted edition instead of silently treating the draft as controlling.
AIA describes A201 as general conditions used with an owner-contractor agreement to govern project administration. Software can route communications, changes, payments, claims, and closeout, but only the project's adopted documents and authorized roles give those records contractual effect.
The standard's modular structure starts with owner requirements, carries them into staged BIM execution planning, names BIM uses, and connects delivery to information exchanges. A model in a platform is not evidence that the contracted chain was completed.
